How Does it Work?

Like many other radiation treatments, Low Dose Rate Brachytherapy (LDR Brachytherapy) uses radioactive sources to eliminate cancerous cells. This treatment is performed with greater precision, has no systemic side effects and has shorter treatment times than other procedures.

A precise dosage of radiation is delivered through Palladium 103 seeds which are positioned within the body. The treatment is completely safe with little to no discomfort. You should be able to return home and normal activity immediately following our treatment. There are no systemic side effects following this procedure; for example, nausea, hair loss or diarrhea. The treatment normally requires no special dietary considerations or pre-treatment preparations other than would be necessary for any operation procedure.

After the Palladium 103 seeds are placed, you will be required to wear a flexible and comfortable shield within your bra while in close proximity to others for 6 weeks until the radioactivity diminishes sufficiently. There is no danger to the general public during those 6 weeks and you may pursue any activity you please.

We were delighted to have been a sponsor of the "Concert for a Cure" starring Olivia Newton John. Here Olivia poses with one of our many patients who attended the concert. The show not only highlighted some of the latest advancements in Cancer research and treatment, but also contributed to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
