How Does It Work?
Like many other radiation treatments, Low Dose Rate Brachytherapy (LDR Brachytherapy) uses radioactive sources to eliminate cancerous cells.
This treatment is performed with greater precision, has no systemic side effects and has shorter treatment times than other procedures.
I was referred to the Breast Brachytherapy Center and Dr. David Schreiber to discuss this procedure. Dr. Schreiber and his staff were knowledgeable, informative and caring.
They welcomed questions from me and from my husband, a retired M.D. I felt confident and fortunate when all of us agreed I was an excellent candidate for brachytherapy.
A Message From Dr. Schreiber
When you or someone you love has been diagnosed with cancer, it is important you seek out the highest quality care, giving you the best survival chances possible. We opened Littleton Radiation Oncology in May 2000, to bring a warm, caring and healing environment to our patients and at the same time offer the latest technology in Radiation Oncology. We offer all this without the need for a hospital visit. Although our practice was initially focused on prostate cancer, we have been able to take existing technologies and expand their uses to various other types of malignancies.
Most importantly, we have made great strides in the treatment of breast cancer, dramatically decreasing the time for treatment from seven weeks to a little over an hour. Our treatments have produced survival times and control of the cancer equal to that of external beam radiation and our cosmetic results have been superior. The reduced patient time commitment improves the quality of life factor as well as eliminates any timing issues related to the delivery of chemotherapy, if that type of treatment is also indicated. If we can be of service to you, or if, at any time you have questions or concerns relating to the treatments we offer, please don’t hesitate to either contact me or a member of my staff We are here to help.
David P. Schreiber, M.D.
